JUNEAU — The Alaska Energy Authority would be able to own and operate new power projects, like the proposed Susitna hydro dam, under a measure that’s passed the House Energy Committee.
In November, the agency recommended the state pursue the Susitna project to help meet Alaska’s goal of having 50 percent of its electricity generation from renewable sources by 2025.
The bill would allow the authority to continue pursuing the multi-billion dollar project, letting it create subsidiary corporations to buy, build, own, keep and run power projects.
The measure now goes to the House Finance Committee for consideration.
