Juneau Capitals start strong at Bantam D state championships

The Juneau Capitals received three goals and two assists from Lance Miller on Saturday in an 11-0 win over the Anchorage Hockey Association Avalanche in the Alaska Bantam D State Championship tournament at Treadwell Arena.

Eric Verrelli had a goal and three assists, Zane Chapman scored twice, and Zach Bicknell had a goal and two assists in the win. Jacob Eames posted a goal and an assist, while Peyton Millay and Nick Rutecki scored one goal each for the Caps.

Juneau goaltender Matthew Noreen recorded his third shutout of the tournament after stopping all 12 shots he faced.

Avalanche goaltender Scott Hodgson stopped 32 of 43 shots in defeat.

Palmer Pioneers 3, Wasilla Wild 3

Brandon Little scored with 5:11 left in regulation to help Wasilla earn a tie with Palmer on Saturday.

Little had two goals and Wendal Harren scored for the Wild.

Palmer's Ivan Good scored two goals, Dalton Buness scored while Thomas Morino and Jonathan Olson picked up assists.

Zachary Eastham stopped 24 of 27 shots for Wasilla, while Zachary Johanson made five saves for Palmer.

Anchorage Boys and Girls Club Blues 13, Kenai Ice Hawks 1

Beau Ingram posted eight goals and two assists Saturday as Anchorage defeated Kenai.

Dylan Hartley and William Barrington scored two goals each, and Travis Anderson added a goal and two assists for the Blues.

William Christianson scored Kenai's lone goal off assists from Hayden Taylor and Avery Palchikoff. Mario Perez made 48 saves for the Ice Hawks.

The Juneau Capitals got off to a flying start in state championships with a Friday win over the Anchorage Boys and Girls Club Blues.

Capitals goaltender Matthew Noreen stopped all 10 shots he faced in the win.

The Caps scored six goals in the second period to take control of the game.

Logan Miller had four goals and two assists to pace Juneau. Eric Verrelli posted two goals and one assist, Zane Chapman and Matthew Whistler scored one goal each, while Zach Bicknell, Chris Budbill and Taylor Lehnhart contributed one assist each.

Blues goaltenders Julie McDonald and Anthony Russo combined to stop 32 of 40 shots.

Juneau Capitals 11, Kenai Ice Hawks 0

Chris Budbill had three goals and one assist and Logan Miller contributed a hat trick and two assists as Juneau blanked Kenai on Friday.

Eric Verrelli had a goal and two assists, Zach Bicknell posted a goal and assist, while Zane Chapman and Trever Held each found the net for the Capitals.

Matthew Noreen preserved the shutout by making four saves.

Kenai goaltender Kyle Daugherty stopped 31 of 42 shots.

Palmer Pioneers 7, AHA Avalanche 4

Palmer scored three goals in the first and second periods to defeat the Anchorage Hockey Association Avalanche on Friday.

Ivan Good scored four goals for the Pioneers, while Stephen Acher had a goal and two assists. Thomas Hunt and Thomas Morino also scored in the win.

Nathaniel McDonald, Brandon Howard, Zachary Perry and Tyler Gillum scored goals for Anchorage.

Wasilla Wild 2, Kenai Ice Hawks 1

Ben Batenburg and Blake Cullip's second-period goals were enough to lift Wasilla past Kenai on Friday.

Zachary Eastham made 14 saves in the win.

Sean Rodland scored Kenai's lone goal in the third period off an assist from Dylan Briggs.

Kyle Daugherty made 25 saves in defeat.

Palmer Pioneers 7, Anchorage Boys and Girls Club Blues 6

Palmer's Cullen Tisch scored with 47.1 seconds left in the game to beat the Blues on Friday.

Dalton Buness scored twice while Stephen Acher, Thomas Morino, Miles George and Mitchell Schurman tallied one goal each for the Pioneers.

Dylan Hartley and Bo Ingram each recorded hat tricks in defeat for Anchorage.

Wasilla Wild 6, AHA Avalanche 2

Wasilla broke a 1-1 tie with three goals in the second period en route to Friday's win over the Anchorage Hockey Association Avalanche.

Wendal Harren scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead Wasilla.

Nathaniel McDonald and Brandon Howard scored for the Avalanche as Scott Hodgson turned back 19 shots.
