Write On, a educational program that encourages young writers, will wind up an eight-week session this week with staged readings of high school students' works by local actors. The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the TMHS auditorium.
Perseverance Education Director Shona Strauser, who worked on the program with local actor, artist and educator Ryan Conarro and longtime Perseverance staff member Merry Ellefson, said the group has been working in the classroom for weeks, helping students come up with one-act plays. More than 150 kids participated.
Of the plays submitted, seven were chosen for the presentation. Local actors from Perseverance and Theatre in the Rough will act them out on stage Monday night, running through all seven.
Strauser said the plays' subjects vary widely and include a young girl;s experiences as a fishermen, a young man's struggle to be well, and a girl who sees everything in black and white.
"It's all over the map," Strauser said.
