JUNEAU - Alaska is the official host country for the 2014 Arctic Winter Games.
Now, it's up to Juneau, Fairbanks and other interested cities and towns to make a pitch for where in Alaska the games should be.
Greenland would be the 2014 host country in the typical rotation, but that has been in question and at a Political Leaders meeting Monday, the Arctic Winter Games Board of Directors unanimously accepted a motion from Alaska Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell, who is attending the games, that Alaska host.
In a press release on his Web site, Campbell called the games "an outstanding opportunity for an Alaskan community to host a major international sporting event and once again highlight the special qualities of Alaska while boosting the local economy."
This year's Arctic Games are currently under way in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
