KODIAK — A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a 50-year-old man reportedly suffering from internal bleeding from Edna Bay 30 miles northwest of Klawock to Sitka Thursday.
The 17th Coast Guard District command center received a call from emergency medical service personnel in Edna Bay at 10:09 a.m. requesting the medevac.
The helicopter crew, already in flight for a routine patrol, returned to Sitka to refuel the aircraft and pick up a Coast Guard flight surgeon to provide more advanced in-flight medical care to the patient.
The helicopter crew arrived in Edna Bay at 12:25 p.m. and transferred the patient from local EMS to the helicopter. They arrived safely in Sitka at 1:42 p.m. and delivered the patient in stable condition to awaiting EMS for treatment at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.
