We need to protect our land and waters

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sen. Ted Stevens, because he is not supporting Northern Dynasty and its pebble mine. I cannot imagine living without fish. It is our food base and it is also a delicacy food worldwide.

Sound off on the important issues of the week at juneaublogger.com/voxbox

This coming spring we will again be able to tell fishing stories of what we caught and stored for the winter. The news media will report about sportfishing all summer. People as tourists from all over the nation come to Alaska just to catch fish. There are articles in fish magazines about fishing, with beautiful pictures documenting how beautiful our resources are in our homeland. We have to remember that this mining company will not share the wealth with Alaska; they will bring their wealth back to Canada after defacing our land and depleting our resources both by land, water and wildlife.

Please remember that fish are not the only reason to protect our land and waters. There are other wildlife that live as nomads in our world and come and go with the seasons. I applaud all of you who want to protect what we have so we can continue the way we live today and tomorrow. Thank you.
