Coast Guard makes gift of computers to Juneau schools

Posted: Wednesday, March 14, 2001

The Coast Guard has donated 20 computer monitors to the Juneau School District with hopes of enhancing the school's access to technology.

"This is a good-sized donation," said LeeAnn Dickson, the Juneau School District's network administrator. "These monitors will be very beneficial. We can use them with both PC and Mac computers."

The Coast Guard donated the monitors through its Partnership in Education Program and the Department of Transportation's Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Futures Program.

Both programs are designed to prepare school-age children for careers in transportation-related jobs. The Coast Guard and other DOT agencies provide excess equipment, mentors, and job shadow opportunities to children throughout the U.S.
