The Alaska Youth Choir would like to express their sincere thanks to all who contributed to the Pacific Rim International Children's Choir Festival Tour fundraising dinner on March 8 at the Moose Lodge. It turned out to be a fabulous success and will assist AYC choristers to attend this prestigious festival in Hawaii.
Prior to leaving for the festival in July, AYC choristers will learn 14 assigned pieces of music in 8 languages in addition to their own repertoire. Under the direction of Dr. Henry Leck, Professor of Music at Indiana University, AYC will join with approximately 300 other choristers from the US, Canada, and the South Pacific in concert at BYU-Hawaii Cannon Center and the Neil Blaisdell Center in Honolulu.
AYC choristers will also have the opportunity to learn about the South Pacific Cultures at the Polynesian Cultural Center by participating in workshops that include language and dance taught by the people of the South Pacific. Further, AYC will perform a concert of their own and have the opportunity to sing in the chapel at Charminade University, arranged by Dan Johnson who is the President of the AYC Board.
We would like to thank the following businesses for their contributions: SuperBear, Specialty Imports, Creativation, Miss Scarlett's, Rainbow Foods, Costco, Heritage Coffee, Copy Express and Carol Johnson, of Competitive Edge.
Thanks also to Laraine Derr, Lui Fenumiai and the kitchen crew, for preparing a sumptuous meal. Finally, thank you to our guests who attended the dinner and bid so generously on gourmet desserts and silent auction items. We hope you'll come again next year.
Mahalo for your kokua and aloha.
