For the first time in history, Team Alaska has won back-to-back midget hockey gold medals in the Arctic Winter Games after a 16-year drought.
Team Alaska's midget hockey team won gold in the heart of Canada, defeating Team Alberta North 6-3 on Saturday in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Juneau's Matt Noreen, Billy Holbrook and Zane Chapman are all on the team.
Juniors win gold
The Team Alaska Junior girls' soccer team won gold in a 2-1 overtime thriller over Northwest Territories on Saturday in the Arctic Winter Games in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
Juneau's Annika Ord scored Team Alaska's only goal in regulation, and Jackie Klecka of Eagle River scored the match-winner.
Northwest Territories defeated Team Alaska 3-1 in round robin play earlier in the week.
Juveniles top Alberta North
The Team Alaska Juvenile girls's soccer team also took gold with a 3-2 win over Alberta North after taking a 3-0 lead before the half.
Team Alaska was able to stave off a second-half rally by Alberta North.
Anchorage's Lizzie Gogolowski scored all three goals for a hat trick. Juneau's Bekka Ord and Katie McKeown are members of the team.
Team Alaska bounced back from a 10-3 pounding at the hands of Alberta on Tuesday to win gold.
In all, Team Alaska dominated with 241 total medals, 101 more than second-place Alberta North.
Team Alaska had 83 gold, 83 silver and 75 bronze medals.
