JUNEAU - The U.S. Small Business Administration has opened an office in Juneau.

"I basically am promoting SBA programs and being the local point of contact for the Southeast area," said Todd Saunders, the sole staff of the Juneau office.

The SBA provides counseling and assistance to small business owners. It can guarantee loans and provide education for entrepreneurs.

Friday was Saunders' first official day in the office, which is in the Bureau of Land Management building on Mayflower Island in Douglas.

He'll hold semi-regular office hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will travel throughout Southeast.

The new office is at 100 Savikko Road. Saunders can be reached at 586-8714 or by e-mail at
