Erin Thompson, 2006 Juneau-Douglas High School graduate, was recently nominated by the Department of Sociology/Anthropology at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., for membership in Alpha Kappa Delta and Lambda Alpha. Both societies are by invitation to students who are officially declared sociology or anthropology majors and have grade-point average of 3.0 in sociology or anthropology courses.
Alpha Kappa Delta implies social research for the purpose of service and the purpose of Lambda Alpha society is to encourage and stimulate scholarship and research in anthropology by recognizing and honoring superior achievement in the discipline, among students, faculty and other persons engaged in the study of anthropology.
Thompson will be officially recognized by the college at the Honors Day Convocation on May 1. She has studied in the Middle East for five months and hopes to pursue her study of anthropology in Alaska.
