JUNEAU - The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for two men reported overboard from a Liberian-flagged container ship in the north Pacific.
The search for two crewmen began Thursday night. The Coast Guard said the men, ages 29 and 42, are from the Pacific island nation of Kiribati. Neither was believed to be wearing a life vest or survival suit.
The Hanjin Pretoria's master reported the crewmen overboard Thursday afternoon, about 850 miles south of Kodiak. The ship was en route to Asia from Long Beach, Calif.
The Coast Guard uses models for cold exposure life expectancy to determine when to call off search and rescue operations.
