Juneau resident Darian Lee Richards died Jan. 26, 2008, at Children's Hospital in Seattle, Wash., after a long fight with acute myeloid leukemia. He was 2½ years old.
Born Sept. 27, 2005, he was extremely strong and outgoing, his family said. He always made the people in his life smile with joy, they said.
"He loved to make every day a great day, no matter what he was going through," they said. "We miss him so much."
He is survived by his parents, Jenifer Johnston and Scott J. Richards; sisters, Cheyanne and Tavona Richards; brother, Elijah Rodriguez; grandparents, Cindy Germain, of Juneau, Kay Myers and Jim Richards, of Oregon, and Matt Johnston, of California; aunts and uncles, Jaylene and James Newman, Harmony and Jon Richards of Oregon, Tod Richards, of Hoonah, and Melody and Jonnie Law, of Seattle; cousins, James Jr., Maddy, Chloe and Hannah Newman, and Pheonix, Lauren and Jessica Law, of Seattle; and many close friends, Jessica Boerem and family, Shelly Boerem and family, Jon and Darcy Stetson and Amy Dressell.
There will be a celebration of his life this summer.
