Ketchikan company has lowest school bid

JUNEAU - A Ketchikan company presented the lowest bid to renovate Glacier Valley Elementary School, according to city Engineering Director Roger Healy.

Staff members from the city and the Juneau School District are recommending both the Juneau School Board and the Juneau Assembly accept Dawson Construction's $11.5 million bid, Healy said.

Healy said two other companies also made bids, but Dawson's was the lowest.

An original estimate pegged the cost for the renovation at $10.4 million, so staff recommends using earnings from the interest on the district's major maintenance fund to make up the difference, Healy said.

The School Board will have to sign off on the recommendation before it can be approved by the city.
