Juneau resident Darin Eugene Knecht died peacefully March 1, 2010, at his parent's home in Juneau after a long time illness. He was 46.
He was born Dec. 28, 1963, and raised in Placerville, Calif., where he attended El Dorado High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany and Panama. He lived in the mid-west, Florida and Alaska throughout his life, although he always considered El Dorado county area his home.
He loved cars, motorcycles, fishing and was a gifted mechanic. He was happiest on the road with his motorcycle, on the boat with a fishing pole or in the garage, with grease under his fingernails. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a fun loving, energetic and charismatic person who had an infectious laugh.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Hawes; and grandparents.
He is survived by his children, Christopher and Shannon Knecht, of Missouri, and Kenneth Torres, of California; father and step-mother, Larry and Nina Knecht, of Juneau; two sisters, Cindy Dvoracek and Rebecca Knecht; step-brothers, Eric Meyer and Clint Palmer; step-sister, LaDonna Orendorff; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service will be held March 20 in Georgetown, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau.
