FAIRBANKS — A University of Alaska Fairbanks researcher is facing a sex abuse charge in Utah involving a teenage boy.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that 45-year-old Jeffrey Werner was Alaska state adviser for the FFA, the organization formerly known as Future Farmers of America.
As the top adult leader in Alaska, he frequently traveled with high school students and shared hotel rooms with them.
Court documents filed in Garfield County, Utah, allege that Werner maintained a pattern of molestation with one high school boy during three years of FFA trips.
Alaska State Troopers arrested Werner in Fairbanks last month and he was awaiting extradition last week.
Calls and e-mails to troopers and to prosecutors in Utah seeking details and whether Werner has a defense attorney were not immediately returned Tuesday.
