FAIRBANKS — Hundreds of delegates to the annual Tanana Chiefs conference are arriving in Fairbanks to elect officers, discuss key issues and hear from Alaska political leaders.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the event is being held at the Westmark Hotel and runs through Thursday. Some of the key issues on the agenda include subsistence, rural energy needs and suicide prevention.
Travis Cole will present the keynote address Wednesday morning. Videoconference greetings from Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell, Rep. Don Young, Sen. Mark Begich and Sen. Lisa Murkowski are scheduled Thursday morning, along with legislative reports from state Sen. Albert Kookesh and Rep. Alan Dick.
Delegates will elect new officers Thursday afternoon, including one of nine candidates vying to be the organization’s next president.
