Anchorage-based pianist Dan McElrath will perform a solo concert at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Room 113 of the Hendrickson Building, at the University of Alaska Southeast. The performance will feature many of McElrath’s original compositions from his most recent album, “Ajazzka,” recorded with by McElrath and the Dan Mac Quintet.
“Ajazzka” features jazz pieces inspired by Alaska landscapes and wildlife, such as “Just An Otter,” a lively tune inspired by an experience McElrath had while watching an otter and a harbor seal “playing tag” in Seward harbor. “The Emerald Isle” was composed as a tribute to Kodiak Island and “Ungulation” is a funky tune reminiscent of Alaska’s moose population.
Guest artists on the album include Milo Matthews, Anthony Reed, Kerri Maule, Scott Weller and Ray Booker.
Tickets to tomorrow’s concert are $15 at the door. For more information, visit www.danmacjazz.net.
