The State Board of Education & Early Development will meet at 8 a.m. Thursday and at 9:20 a.m. Friday. The meeting will be held in the state board room on the ground floor of 801 W. 10th Street in Juneau. The public is invited to attend.
The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items on Thursday. The public may offer comments and testimony beginning at 8:15 a.m. at the meeting site or through the Legislative Information Offices in Anchorage, Barrow, Bethel, Cordova, Delta Junction, Dillingham, Fairbanks, Glennallen, Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Mat-Su, Nome, Petersburg, Seward, Sitka, Tok, Valdez, and Wrangell. Topics at the work session include: graduation, a legislative report, the pre-kindergarten pilot program, a blueprint for birth-to-graduation literacy, a report from the instructional trustee of the Yupiit School District, the Alaska’s Learning Network, financial waivers for five audited districts, the capital improvement program list, renewal of the charter for the Tongass School of Arts & Sciences Charter School, review of current regulations, review of regulations that may go out for public comment and review of regulations that may be adopted.
The regulations that may go out for public comment are related to teacher certification, standards for the English language learners’ proficiency assessment, assessment participation guidelines, the student assessment system, the Alaska Performance Scholarship, and state museum fees.
