U.S. Army Spc. Lester Hunt is greeted by his mother, Margaret Hunt, on Tuesday at the Juneau Airport. Spc. Hunt said he thought to himself, "Thank God I'm in the USA." when his flight arrived in Juneau. He was greeted by his family, friends and many well-wishers at the airport. On March 26, 2003, Hunt and the 173rd Airborne Brigade, the "Sky Soldiers," became the only airborne brigade to perform a combat jump, when the 173rd dropped a thousand paratroopers into northern Iraq to open the northern front of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This was the largest combat parachute operation since World War II. Hunt, a Juneau-Douglas High School graduate, is on leave in Juneau for three weeks. He will be visiting local schools to tell about his time in Iraq. He is due to leave the Army Aug. 1, pending any military stop-loss orders.
