Evening of magic tricks, illusions Friday at TMHS

Posted: Thursday, March 18, 2010

A hamster will vanish and reappear. Minds will be read. People will be suspended in thin air. It's all happening at the upcoming Evening of Magic, Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the Thunder Mountain High School Theatre.

Magicians Mike McRea, Orion Cohen, Wade Rogers, Becca Marx (assisted by her grandfather, Rick Cook, aka The Amazing Pescadini), and Jeff Brown will amaze their audience in a benefit performance for the Community Schools program.

"The show grew out of Orion's ROPES project for school and things just started rolling from there," said Brown, his ROPES instructor and local magician. Cohen will showcase some sleight-of-hand as well as some card magic.

"We'll be presenting a bit of close-up magic before the show, and work our way up to some fun illusions," Brown said, He has also been working with bug superstar, Fearless Freddie, in his attempt at a life-threatening daredevil stunt.

McRea, also a local magician, will be offering some classic magic effects close-up and on stage. Marx will be working with her hamster, Cookie, in an attempt to read an audience member's mind, and Rogers will share some of his conjuring skills too.

Tickets are $5 at the door, with a family rate of $20.
