• 2005 Southeast Shootout Basketball Tournament - This middle-school basketball tournament, sponsored by Juneau HoopTime and featuring boys and girls teams from across Southeast, will be held at Floyd Dryden Middle School. Games will also be held at Riverbend Elementary School on Wednesday and Thursday, March 23-24. MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

• Eaglecrest Ski Area March events - It's March Madness time at Eaglecrest Ski Area. Events include: a variety of ski and snowboard camps over Spring Break, March 21-25; Alaska Youth Ski League state championships from March 24-27; and an Easter celebration with a purple bunny chase, egg hunt and bonnet contest on March 27. • Youth track and field training camp - The Juneau-Douglas High School track and field team will conduct a training camp for kids in grades 2-8 on Thursday, March 24 (during spring break) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The camp will start at the Glacier Valley Elementary School gym, and will guide participants through fun and motivating techniques important to a variety of track and field discliplines. • Fly Fishing 101 class - Fly Fishing 101 will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday, March 29 and 31, from 7-9 p.m. at Floyd Dryden Middle School. The class has been taught for the past 10 years and is suggested for beginners wishing to learn enough to pursue the sport. • Evening Masters Swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly Evening Masters Swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Participants must be able to swim crawlstroke and backstroke. Info: Augustus Brown swim pool, 586-5325.

OPEN GYMS / SCRIMMAGES / ONGOING

• Mount Jumbo preschool open gym - Preschool open gyms for children ages 1-6 and an adult parent or caregiver take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through April. There must be at least one adult present for every four kids. There is a $1 per child fee, or punchcards for $10 and $50 can be bought at the gym, which is located at 909 4th Street in Douglas. Tricycles, mats, balls, a Little Tykes climber, building blocks and a kid-sized basketball hoop are available. • Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - New climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee.
