Scott May, the Juneau-Douglas High School track coach, took matters into his own hands. He recruited volunteers this past weekend to remove snow from one lane of the high school track field so the high school team could begin training.
On Saturday, more than 25 people of all ages turned up to help. The volunteers removed about four feet of firmly packed snow for 400 meters. By Sunday, people had cleared three lanes of snow.
John Bursell, a parent of a freshman runner, admitted he was very sore Monday from the weekend effort.
