ANCHORAGE — Alaska State Troopers say two Wasilla residents have died in a snowmobile crash in Trapper Creek.

Troopers say 23-year-old Eric Zehnder and 22-year-old Kimber Velasquez were pronounced dead at the scene, west of Talkeetna.

Troopers were notified of the crash just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday while CPR was being administered near mile 17 of Petersville Road, which is not maintained in winter.

Medics and troopers responded by helicopter.

Investigators say Zehnder and Velasquez were riding the snowmobile when it apparently went over a steep embankment, ejecting them both.

Troopers say both appear to have been wearing helmets.
