Juneau snow crews can only do so much

Letter to the editor

While reading Claude Epperson's March 15 letter to the editor titled "Juneau Drivers are being set up," I at first thought it was a satire. The more I read, I found he was quite serious.

Sound off on the important issues at

I have always felt the Alaska Department of Transportation has done a great job clearing our roads. No matter what time it is, there is always someone plowing or de-icing.

I can understand when the snow is coming down like it has been the last couple weeks, it can be hard to catch up. I'm sure DOT has a strategy regarding which roads have priority.

I don't expect the road out past Auke Village Recreation Area to be plowed before Back Loop, Glacier Highway or even smaller roads like Taku Boulevard. My cure for safe driving is this: Slow down and take easier wider turns. I know it may be hard, but I think we, as a community, can do it.
