JUNEAU - Hank Harmon Rifle Range Inc. received verbal notification in early March that the range was the recipients of a $10,000 grant from Friends of the National Rifle Association - Alaska. The grant will be used for "grading and drainage" improvements on its short, 100 yard range. That range is normally referred to as "the pistol range" but can be used by both rifle and pistols. It is separated from the 400-yard long range by a safety wall.
Each year, in each state of our union and in many communities of each state, friends of NRA banquet is held as a fundraiser for promotion of youth hunter education and firearms training, women's firearms training and gun safety program, shooting range development, the Second Amendment, firearms safety, 4-H firearms safety, Boy Scouts firearms safety, hunting and other outdoor activities and competitive shooting.
One hundred percent of all funds raised by this activity are then granted to requested community organizations by the statewide committee of FONRA. Juneau's Friends of NRA 2009 event is scheduled for April 25 at Centennial Hall.
Other organizations in Juneau receiving a grant were Thunder Mountain High School Air Rifle Team, $3,000; and the Juneau Boy Scouts safe firearms program.
