Hoonah eliminates Angoon in B Bracket with 94-89 win on Friday

Hoonah's James Wilson split the defense for a layup with less than a minute left to put his team up for good Friday. The outcome of Friday's back-and-forth affair wasn't decided until the final seconds of play as Hoonah won 94-89 in the Juneau Lions Club Gold Medal Tournament Mighty B Bracket loser's bracket final at Juneau-Douglas High School.

Hoonah had three players score 20 points or more as Travis Dybdahl led his team with 22 points. Lucas Johnson had 21 points and Wilson had 20 in the win. Mike Schneeberger scored 14 points, Devin Moretz had five points, D.J. Lindstrom scored eight points, while David Lindoff had four points.

Hoonah made three 3-pointers in the win and hit 23 of 29 free throws.

For Angoon, Damien Long scored a team-high 25 points while Curtis Lane added 17 points. Stan Johnson Jr. and Guy Hunter tallied 13 points each, Levi Johnson Sr. and Bailey Johnson had eight points each, and Alper Johnson scored five points in defeat. Angoon made six 3-pointers and 17 of 26 free throws.


Hoonah 77, Yakutat 66

Hoonah rallied from a 33-27 halftime deficit to eliminate Yakutat on Friday.

Louie White Sr. led the way for Hoonah with 39 points, including six 3-pointers. Jack Lee had 14 points, Pete Schneeberger tallied 10 points, Bill Wolfe Jr. scored six points, Dan Smith had four points, while Alan Fisher and Leon Cain totaled two points each.

For Yakutat, Brian Harber poured in 25 points and Tom Faverty scored 18 points. Matt Wheeler had 10 points, John Nichols scored nine points, while Greg Indreland and John Jensen had two points each.


Klukwan 80, Hoonah 71

Jeff Sharnboich and Dave Buss poured in 26 points each as Klukwan rallied past Hoonah in a tight contest. The score was tied 38-38 at the half.

Ethan Billings and Frank Tompkins scored 10 points each, Guy Tompkins had five points and Duane Wilson tallied three points for Klukwan.

For Hoonah, Kamal Lindoff had 20 points, Garvin Martin scored 15 points and Showalter Martin posted 14 points. Lance Geise and Albert Hinchman had eight points each, Mike Mills scored four points and Andy Gray had two points in defeat.



Haines Merchants 84, Angoon 81

Angoon put Haines Merchants to the test last Thursday night, but Haines prevailed and earned the opportunity to defend its Mighty B Bracket title.

Haines led 38-33 at halftime against Angoon.

Brian Friske poured in 20 points in the win while Andrew Friske added 17 points. Tyler Healy totaled 15 points, Ben Egolf posted 12 points, Jason Shull and Jesse McGraw scored seven points each while Norman Zura had six points for Haines.

Curtis Lane led Angoon with 29 points while Stan Johnson Jr. posted 18 points. Guy Hunter scored 10 points, Damien Long had nine points, Levi Johnson Sr. and Bailey Johnson scored six points each while Kevin Mitchell had three points in the loss.
