The Klukwan Masters took it to a fill-in Metlakatla team on Monday afternoon, but it was a different story Tuesday against Huna in M Bracket action.
The Masters from Hoonah won a tight 73-65 battle against Klukwan, overcoming a three-point deficit at halftime to outscore Klukwan 42-31 in the second half and advance in the winner’s bracket of the M Division during the 65th Annual Juneau Lions Club Gold Medal Tournament.
Garcia led the way for Huna with 20 points, including four 3-pointers that all came in the second half. Ken Willard Jr. wasn’t far behind with 19 points. 2010 Hall of Fame inductee Louie White Sr. scored 11 points for Huna, while Klas Stolpe was the only other player in double figures with 10 points.
Chris Wassaman was a beast for Klukwan in the first half, scoring 20 of his 22 points before leading his team into the half up by three points. Joe Parnell picked up the slack in the second half with 12 of his 16 points in the contest coming after the break.
Klawock eliminates Yakutat Tuesday night
Klawoock advanced to the semifinals of the Masters Bracket on Tuesday with a 70-64 win over Yakutat during the 65th Annual Juneau Lions Club Gold Medal Tournament at Juneau-Douglas High School.
Martin Svenson scored 25 points, Norm Skan 17 and Mike Benson 15 to lead the victors.
Greg Inderline scored 16 to lead Yakutat, John Nichols added 11 and John Jenson 10.
Klawock faces the Huna Masters at 9 p.m. Thursday for a spot in the championship game, while Yakutat meets Metlakatla at 12:30 p.m. today.
