Art show raises scholarship funds
Prints by more than 35 artists will be offered for sale at the P.E.O. Attic Art Show from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 9 at DIPAC. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.
Among the other local artists are Alice Slattery Tersteeg, Detlef Buettner and Diane Anderson. In addition to prints and original art, the show will feature quilts, glasswork, photography, pottery and some Alaska Native art.
Art salvaged from the attic, stripped from walls and dug out of closets will also be featured.
Artists will donate 30 percent of the proceeds from sales to P.E.O. scholarship funds.
P.E.O., a philanthropic and educational organization, began sponsoring annual art exhibits in Juneau in 1953 to encourage interest in the arts and showcase Southeast Alaska talent.
For more information, or to contribute art, call 789-7401.
Families to host students sought
Local families are being sought to host participants in the Rural Student Vocational Program April 3-14. About 15 Southeast Alaska high school students are expected from the Yakutat, Chatham, Kake, Pelican, Wrangell and Skagway school districts.
The program, sponsored by the Southeast Regional Resource Center, involves two weeks of work experience and career consultation. School districts pay student tuition and travel costs, local families provide housing, and business and government entities provide work opportunities.
For more information call Linda Kadrlik at 586-6806.
Fourth of July parade theme chosen

Tag Day for pets is April 8
The Gastineau Humane Society is asking pet owners to tag their pets during the American Humane Association's Tag Day April 8. Tags may include traditional I.D. tags, tattoos, microchips, or any other device that can better help humane agencies identify and reunite lost pets with their families.
I.D. tags can be purchased at the Humane Society during Tag Day. Also, licenses for dogs can obtained that day without a late fee being applied.
For more information on tagging pets, contact the Gastineau Humane Society at 789-0260.
