Spring a time of spiritual renewal too

Living and growing

Posted: Friday, March 24, 2000

We are heading toward Easter at breakneck speed. It won't be long before the flowers are blooming, the driveways are ice-free and daylight-saving time is just around the corner. I love renewal. It happens this way every year.

The days leading up to Easter are a great time to renew your spirit, too. These early spring days are not yet filled with softball or long outings or day trips in the boat. It's usually still raining and there's that lingering desire to read just another chapter before going for your walk. Why not put these days to good use attending to your spirit!

How can you do that? First, worship. There are many worship styles and times available throughout the community. Worship includes the way we relate to other people and the way we live our lives - through prayers, sacred rituals and the spoken word.

Second, pray. Pray when you wake up, pray before you eat, pray when you walk, pray as you're driving, pray with your children, pray before you fall off to sleep. It is the only way to truly know what God would have you do with the gifts God has given you.

If you don't feel like you know how to pray, or you want to experience prayer in a small group, contact a local church. There are several great prayer leaders in our midst who can mentor you. But don't wait for someone else. Pray always.

Third, it's a great time to connect up with a small group around a shared interest or mission. In that group you'll pray, share about your life and grow each other's spirit. If you would like to start a group, but you're not sure how, again, that's what churches are here for. We'd love to help you find a way to share your gifts.

The coming weeks will be exciting. Renewal always is. Stop in to a church on Sunday - the place is hopping. Or any day of the week for that matter. There are groups and activities throughout each week to support you on your spiritual journey, and help nurture you in faith. You won't want to miss any of them! See you in worship!
