Pulling fluoride was unconscionable

Posted: Wednesday, March 24, 2004

Deciding to stop adding fluoride to the public water supply almost a year ago without informing the public is unconscionable. Although Mr. Buck, the director of the Juneau Public Works Department, may have felt justified in what he did, he has no authority to make that kind of decision. This is an important public health issue that affects the dental health of 32,000 people.

I grew up in a town that did not put fluoride in the water, and believe me, my teeth show it. I urge Mr. Swope, our city manager, Mayor Botelho, and the City Assembly to deal with this issue immediately.
