MEDFORD, Ore. - An Ashland, Ore., man appeared in federal court Wednesday to face charges of attempted destruction of an Alaska Airlines aircraft and interference with a flight crew.
The indictment accuses 29-year-old Dustin Elkins of trying to set the seat of an Alaska Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Seattle on fire in February. The plane was diverted to Portland, Ore.
Elkins was released Friday on conditions that he not leave Oregon without permission, not travel on any plane, enter any airport, have contact with aircraft personnel without approval or use controlled substances.
A trial date was set for May 27 in federal court in Portland.
