FAIRBANKS - A 49-year-old Barrow man has been sentenced to serve 15 years in a federal prison for attempting to possess and distribute marijuana.
Robert Daniel Lozano Sr. also was ordered to forfeit more than $62,000 when he was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Fairbanks. A jury found him guilty in January.
The U.S. Attorney's office said in February 2008, Lozano received a package containing more than 10 pounds of marijuana buds mailed from California to his Barrow post office box.
The package had earlier been intercepted by postal inspectors in Anchorage. Authorities said the street value of the marijuana could have netted as much as $300,000.
