FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks man accused of brutally beating his wife last month has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and been sentenced to six months in prison.
According to a criminal complaint, the wife of 24-year-old Robert Cronkhite told officers she grabbed a steak knife to defend herself during an argument and stabbed him in the leg.
Cronkhite responded to the stabbing by choking her until she passed out and then kicking her repeatedly.
Assistant District Attorney Joe Dallaire told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that the victim declined to cooperate with prosecutors.
Bill Satterberg, Cronkhite's attorney, says the incident was a "loud wake-up call" for the couple to repair their relationship.
