Marshals nab Alaskan fugitive in McVille

Posted: Wednesday, March 24, 2010

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The U.S. Marshals Service says it has nabbed a fugitive from Alaska on a ranch in eastern North Dakota.

Authorities said 44-year-old James Mead is wanted on charges of assault and attempted murder in Alaska. Authorities in that state tracked him to a ranch near McVille, a North Dakota town of about 400 people, and alerted the Marshals Service.

David Long, head of the Alaska Fugitive Task Force, says authorities think Mead was working on the ranch. Long didn't provide details on how Mead was found, saying only that it was "good old fashioned police work."

Mead is accused of shooting a man in February 2009 in Delta Junction.
