United Way launches $3 million effort

ANCHORAGE - United Way of Anchorage says it is investing nearly $3 million on various community projects.

Organization officials say more than 85 volunteers chose to distribute the available $2.93 million among 64 programs.

Altogether, 103 applicants requested $6.3 million in funding.

Programs chosen include efforts to help families improve financial stability, increase the number of kindergartners who are ready to learn and improve access to health care.
