KETCHIKAN — Volunteers have suspended their search for a 35-year-old man missing on a snowboarding trip outside Ketchikan.
Michael Madden has been missing since March 12.
The Ketchikan Daily News reports he was reported overdue from a planned day trip on Deer Mountain.
A spokesman for the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad says Madden likely was caught in one of three avalanches on the mountain.
Searching was interrupted by high winds and heavy snow but resumed Sunday. Searchers say Madden probably was not carrying a locator beacon.
The search involved about 28 rescue squad members, including two dog teams, additional mountain rescuers from Juneau, Alaska State Troopers, private helicopters, and other local volunteers.
