Sunday's My Turn column by Kevin Myers was a really informative and good article. I hope everyone reads it even if you don't agree with it.

Regarding Sunday's Sierra Club My Turn article, Mr. Myers is in error in claiming that what remains of the timber industry is subsidized by the Forest Service. Loggers and sawmillers generate far more revenue to the federal government in taxes than we have ever received in these so-called subsidies. In addition, our suppliers pay taxes and our end users pay taxes. For instance, we deal with over 75 Juneau businesses, which helps the Juneau economy. For a non-profit, non-taxpaying organization that seems to thrive on scare tactics the Sierra Club sure does seem to get a lot of press.

I like your new Word of Mouth format. I never did like this anonymous garbage.

Damon Cruz's letter of March 26 was a very factual and daring letter indeed. I would like to add if I may that if a public school teacher can't make the grade, no pun intended, then perhaps a phase out is in order and home school is the answer. It would save the state a lot of money on teachers that say they need a raise as well as grant the teachers their request, that is, that they can't teach our children without the parent's help.

I'd like to complain about the waste management pricing structure. I recycle and I only generate about a half can of garbage per month and they want me to pay the same amount as someone who generates 12 or more cans per month. They do have a one can per week pickup for senior citizens only and I think that's very unfair.

Please call us at 586-9768 if you have news of our daughter's blue hula hoop. It blew into the channel early Monday afternoon from Thane Beach and sailed rapidly north towards town or Douglas. A small reward is offered!

I sure wish that the teen-ager who has continued to destroy my fence and garden stakes alongside Tongass Boulevard would stop tearing it down. If you have a problem with me please come and we can talk. Maybe I can help you. I'm on a fixed income and fences are quite costly.
