This letter is submitted on behalf of SEACC. Following its extensive review of the proposed Kensington mine, the National Marine Fisheries Service strongly recommended that Coeur Alaska use an alternative industrial dock location to Cascade Point, preferably outside of Berners Bay.
Now, it's time to see what Coeur is really all about. The industrial ferry ports and boat and barge traffic in Berners Bay are a choice, not a necessity, for the mine. In its newspaper and radio ads, Coeur talks big about its corporate record of "environmental stewardship." We'll see if they can actually walk the walk. Will they do the right thing and follow NMFS's expert recommendations and not build a dock at Cascade Point?
