JUNEAU - "Marketing Successfully in Big Box Town" is the topic for the Juneau Small Business Development Center's Brown Bag Marketing Series presentation noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the downtown library.
"Small businesses can compete with big box retailers, but it may take some new thinking," said Karen Wilke, program specialist who is teaching the class. "We're going to take a look at what small businesses do better, and how businesses can get that message out in a variety of ways."
On Wednesday, the center will explore marketing further in an evening business class, "Marketing on a Shoestring." The class will run 6 to 9 p.m. in the third-floor conference room of the Juneau Empire building, 3100 Channel Drive. The cost is $25, but scholarships are available for low-income participants.
The seminar provides tips and techniques for business owners and marketing managers to focus limited time and dollars effectively, maximize exposure and target their audience with free or low cost promotions. The class will be taught by Southeast Director Jackie Stewart.
The Juneau SBDC offers free, confidential business counseling for new, aspiring and established business owners.
