FAIRBANKS - A 48-year-old Fairbanks snowmachiner was rescued off Gulkana Glacier after driving off a cliff.

A Fort Wainwright medevac unit rescued the man Monday on the glacier near Summit Lake.

The man appeared to have a fractured hip and two broken legs after he drove off a cliff and fell about 50 feet, said Sgt. Gerald Winchester, a medic. The snowmachine apparently landed on him.

The unidentified snowmachiner was one of four riders in the party. He was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown, though they were not life threatening.
