JUNEAU - Alaska Airlines has canceled all arriving and departing flights Thursday out of Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage due to the latest eruption of Mt. Redoubt.
Other airlines are canceling flights as well.
A notice posted on the Alaska Airlines Website said that while all flights have been canceled for the remainder of today, they hope to resume normal operations after daybreak today.
It said it had canceled 45 flights earlier this week for the same reason, affecting about 4,000 travelers. The airline said people who were booked on a canceled flight on Thursday or Friday can rebook before April 2 without penalty or apply for a full refund.
Alaska Airlines averages 44 departures from Anchorage every day.
Today's eruption sent an ash cloud more that 60,000 feet above the volcano. The mountain is about 70 miles to the northwest of Homer, Alaska.
