C Bracket
Filcom 88, Angoon 78
Ongo Tupou scored 24 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Juneau's Filipino Community over Angoon 88-78 during Thursday's Gold Medal C Bracket game.
Filcom is 3-1 in tournament play and will next face Huna, with the winner advancing to the title game. The loss means Angoon is now eliminated from the tournament.
Filcom held a substantial lead for most of the game, and was able to hold off a late rally by Angoon in the second period. Filcom's Greg Lockwood dominated the inside and finished the game with 22 points. Toby Carandang scored 14 and Jimmy Carson added 13 for Filcom.
Angoon was led by 19 points from Frank Jack III led Angoon with 19 points, and Phil Daetwiler chipped in 15. Hall of Famer Kenny Johnson had four three-pointers off the bench to finish with 12 and Charlie Frisby added 11.
M Bracket
Klukwan 81, Hoonah Oldtimers 73
The Klukwan Chilkats eliminated the Hoonah Oldtimers from the Master's Bracket on Thursday 81-73.
Klukwan will face Klawock in today's loser bracket semifinals at 6 p.m.
Rob Hotch Larose led Klukwan with 25 points, including four shots from long range. Chris Wasserman scored 18, Joe Parnell had 10, and Hall of Famer Larry Sweet Sr. added eight for Klukwan.
Myron Martin led Hoonah with 21 points. Louie White scored 14 and Allen Fisher Sr. scored 12 in a losing effort.
Green Team 77, Klawock 68
The Juneau Hangar Green Team advanced to the Master's Bracket championship game with a 77-68 win against Klawock Thursday night. The Green Team will face the winner of today's Klawock-Klukwan loser's bracket matchup.
Juneau benefited from a balanced scoring attack. Steve Brandner scored 17 points, Ethan Billings and Greg Huebschen had 14, Mike Kelly had 9, Craig Kahklen and Kevin Casperson scored 8 apiece for the Green Team.
Hall of Famers Sid Edenshaw scored 25, Greg Stigen added 21, and Norm Skan contributed 13 points to lead Klawock.
B Bracket
Haines 98, Kake 76
The Haines Merchants jumped out to a big first-half lead and cruised to a 98-76 win against Kake Thursday in B Bracket Gold Medal action.
Andrew Friske led the Merchants with 29 points, including five three-pointers. Haines advances to the loser bracket semifinals and will face the loser of Thursday's late B Bracket game against Metlakatla and Huna.
Haines had six players score in double figures. Orion Falvey scored 13 points, Tyler Healy had 12, Stuart Dewitt added 11, and Jeff David III and Norman Zura each had 10 points.
Anthony Ross led all scorers with 33 points for Kake. Teammates Shane Padgett scored 13 and Rudy Cavanaugh contributed 10. The loss eliminates Kake from the tournament.
Wednesday late game
Kake 85, Angoon 79
Brandon Jackson scored 25 points to lead Kake past Angoon 85-79 in Wednesday's late B Bracket matchup. Kake advanced in the loser's bracket to meet Haines on Thursday, but ended up losing 98-76. Angoon was knocked out of the Gold Medal tournament.
Shane Padgett nailed four three-pointers, en route to a 22-point effort for Kake. Anthony Ross scored 16 and Nathaniel Pettis added 13 to round out Kake's high scorers.
Angoon was led by Guy Hunter with 27 points. Curtis Lane scored 16, including four treys, and John Croasmun Jr. added 15.
