``Neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night, shall stay these messengers from their appointed rounds.'' I'm referring to the U.S. Postal Service workers, whom most of us take for granted. I have just recently had occasion to take a close look at the services they provide. Like most of us, they are not perfect; but on the whole, they do a marvelous job.
The employees at the Mendenhall branch have always been courteous and helpful to my needs. When buying stamps, they take the time to show me the new issues. Letters and packages I send from Juneau, particularly third class and book rate mail, generally arrive ahead of schedule. They have listened to my complaints regarding mail which did not arrive on schedule without showing the least bit of aggravation, even though the breakdown occurred en route to Juneau from the South 48. The list goes on and on.
So the next time you're in the Post Office, take the time to say to them, ``Thank you for many years of good and faithful service.'' They deserve it.
