So we finally drove off all the cruise ships and the tourists. As we walk around downtown, the only businesses left open are maybe eight bars. The rest of the businesses closed down because they couldn't afford to operate on what the local people spent in them. Look's like we got our "old" downtown back.
But wait. It has been suggested that we diversify and perhaps tax milk instead of alcohol. Diversification is a great idea, but nobody has come up with any alternatives to tourism.
How about this: We know it is just a matter of time before the Legislature moves up north and eventually all the state jobs also. So, we will be left with a big, empty 12-story building that we could turn into a casino and make milk the only drink served. This should generate all the revenue we need and also give us a better class of people than tourists.
