Posted: Thursday, March 28, 2002

Perseverance Theatre will hold auditions for its 2002-03 season on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, at the Juneau-Douglas High School Dance Studio.

Roles are available for men and women age 17 through 80. Actors should prepare a monologue or story no longer than three minutes. To audition for the musical, singers should prepare a short song and provide sheet music for the accompanist.

There are no roles for children next season. Auditions for youth programs will be held at another time.

The 2002-03 season will include four plays and a musical. The season will open with "Dirty Blonde," a comedy about actress Mae West that just wrapped a successful run on Broadway. Tennessee Williams' classic, "The Glass Menagerie," will follow, as will "Working," a musical based on the book by Studs Terkel. "Working" features music by James Taylor and Stephen Schwartz. "Winesburg," a play based on a novel by Sherwood Anderson, tells the story of life in a small Ohio town, viewed through the eyes of a 17yearold newspaper reporter.

The season will wrap with a new play, "Up: The Man in the Flying Lawnchair Play," which is based on the true story of Larry Walter, a man who attached a bunch of helium balloons to a lawn chair and flew across the Mojave Desert.
