Might I add another voice of support to Wayne Fleek's suggestion to return to the route of yesteryears and explore the Taku.
Also, a life-long Alaskan, I can remember my late father and uncle (Don and Sim) discussing the options in the early days. My grandfather, Lauchlan "Lokkie" MacKinnon, always went the Taku River route to Atlin Lake and on to the Yukon River. This was the only route prior to 1898 and the route through Skagway and Dyee and over the Pass. Many trips were made into the Atlin country when the gold there was discovered and the years following for trips down the Yukon.
For all the reasons stated by Wayne, I would encourage the DOTPF folks, under the able leadership of Commissioner Mike Barton, to reassess the Juneau Access Project. This would be beneficial to all and make a lot of friends along the way.
