Coast Guard unit moving to Juneau

Posted: Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Coast Guard Electronics System Support Unit Kodiak is scheduled to move to juneau under the newly established ESU Juneau command Friday.

Cmdr. Lane Johnson, ESU Kodiak commanding officer, will have command of ESSU Juneau and five electronic support detachments throughout Alaska. The missions and capabilities of ESD Kodiak will remain the same, even though there has been a reorganization of the unit’s command.

“The hardworking men and women of ESU Kodiak will be just as diligent in their efforts under a new name, and their customers, the men and women of the Coast Guard in Alaska, and by extension the Alaskan public, will experience no change in our services,” said Johnson. “Only four people are physically shifting from Kodiak to Juneau to effect this change. This relocation, which includes my position, will allow our ESU to consolidate its command-level oversight of our detachments to a single geographic location.”

These Coast Guard-wide changes will provide a more agile, flexible, and responsive organization meeting the needs of the 21st century. ESUs throughout the Coast Guard provide command, control, communications, computers, and information technology field services to all Coast Guard units.

Cmdr. Johnson will physically remain in Kodiak until his formal change of command ceremony in June.
