FAIRBANKS - The Fairbanks Community Food Bank lost 1,000 pounds of coal to a thief, but has more than made up for it, thanks to local donations.
The community food bank has been fielding phone calls from local residents and businesses donating money to cover the theft of $55 worth of coal.
The donations are equal to 10 tons of coal.
Samantha Kirstein, executive director of the food bank, said there was an "incredible response" to news reports of the theft.
The coal was stolen last weekend from a storage trailer behind the food bank.
