State encourages schools to publicize US Census

Posted: Tuesday, March 30, 2010

JUNEAU - The State of Alaska is encouraging all Alaskans to participate in the 2010 U.S. census. Schools can help publicize the census with "All Alaskans Count" posters available from Ingrid Zaruba at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. She may be reached at 907-465-2439 orIngrid.zaruba@alaska.gov.

The census, which is mandated by the Constitution, plays a role in apportioning seats in Congress and distributing federal funds. Its data helps communities and states plan their services.

Alaskans will receive census forms at home this month. Households that do not return their completed questionnaires will be visited by a census taker in May. Alaskans may inquire about census jobs at 1-866-861-2010 or www.2010censusjobs.gov.

The Census in the Schools curriculum is available at www.census.gov/schools/, and outreach materials can be found at www.2010.census.gov/partners/materials/outreach-materials.php. Fliers are available at www.2010.census.gov/partners/materials/flier-materials.php.
